About the AGO

Located in Toronto, Canada’s largest city of 5.9 million, the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) is one of the largest art museums in North America. The AGO’s collection of close to 95,000 works ranges from cutting-edge contemporary art such as Untilled by Pierre Huyghe to European masterpieces such as Peter Paul Rubens’s The Massacre of The Innocents; from the vast collection by the Group of Seven to works by established and emerging Indigenous Canadian artists; with a photography collection that tracks the impact of the medium with deep holdings of works by artists such as Garry Winogrand and Diane Arbus; and with focused collections in Gothic boxwood miniatures and Western and Central African art.

What We Do

Drawing on the collection—as well as collaborations with museums around the world—the AGO presents wide-ranging exhibitions and programs, taking special care to showcase diverse and underrepresented artists. A major expansion designed by Frank Gehry in 2008 with lead support from the family of Ken Thomson makes the AGO a highly-photographed architectural landmark. The Art Gallery of Ontario is funded in part by the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport. Additional operating support is received from the City of Toronto, the Canada Council for the Arts and generous contributions from AGO members, donors and private-sector partners.

Took in the Andy Warhol exhibit which was well set up and very interesting. We purchased an annual pass and booked our time for the exhibit all on line. The process was very easy and we were able to download digital card and ticket to the exhibit quickly. Entering the AGO and the exhibit was easy with the scanning of the ticket and all staff were very friendly and helpful. We look forward to returning for the Picasso exhibit!

Always love to go to the AGO - never disappointed with the well curated exhibits plus the permanent collection is a nice refresh on some of my favourite paintings.

I’m an OCAD student brand new to the city. The staff here were welcoming, polite and extremely knowledgeable. Shoutout to the girl who took tickets outside, explained the whole process of obtaining a pass for aged 25 and under. The Gallery is neat and tidy, and full of amazing art. I’ll definitely be going back.

Our Tribute to the Andy Warhol Exhibit at the AGO Toronto On. It was 2006 when Patrick, Jacob and Myself viewed the incredible works of Pop Artist Andy Warhol for the first time at the AGO. Fast forward 15 years on Patricks 55th Birthday weekend we witnessed the sold out Retrospective Exhibition of Andy Warhol’s extensive artistic career. It was perfectly curated by the AGO and we can’t wait to see Andy again in Toronto! Thank you!
