(TORONTO – May 19, 2021) – Today, Massey Hall is calling out to all music fans for their chance to support the Massey Hall Revitalization and dedicate a seat in Canada’s crown jewel of music venues.
This is the opportunity to be a part of music history and dedicate a seat for themselves, a special someone or, in memory of a loved one. Donations start at $500 for gallery seating, $2500 for balcony level & $5000 for orchestra at masseyhall.com/seatnaming.
As a bonus, when music fans join or renew their Massey Hall Membership with their seat dedication by 11:59pm on June 12th, they will receive a second Platinum level Membership totally free to honour someone they love. For more information about memberships, visit https://www.masseyhallandroythomsonhall.com/about/membership.
Music fans can also enter for their chance to win & dedicate a pair of seats by telling us who inspired their love of music HERE. The winner will choose two names to be engraved on plaques and installed on the armrests in Massey Hall’s newly named Allan Slaight Auditorium. Contest closes June 13th at 11:59pm. Per contest terms, the winner will be chosen at random.
ABOUT MASSEY HALL:
Massey Hall’s iconic red doors have been closed since July 2018 for the most significant renovation in its 127-year history. This call for public support comes at a very exciting time in the project. Scaffolding that covered the entire building was removed a few months ago, revealing the restored façade that now beams in its original glory with 100 original stained glass windows - the first time since they were boarded up almost a century ago. The stone “Massey Hall” sign that sits above the main entrance has been restored once again to the original, “Massey Music Hall” – literally putting the music back in Massey Hall. “Music” was carved out of the stonework when the fire escapes were installed in 1911.
When the Revitalization project is complete, music fans will once again be able to revel in magical live music moments in the restored Allan Slaight Auditorium, and explore new live experiences in the 7-storey addition, collectively known as Allied Music Centre.
This expansion means that there will now be four venues for artists, educators, and community groups plus extended programming opportunities. Beyond improved amenities and accessibility, students and communities will engage and connect through expanded Education and Outreach activity. Artists will be able to create and perform at every stage of their careers with tailored Artist Development support from the Halls.
Music fans will be an integral part of an artist’s path to becoming headliners and inspiring budding new musicians at the community level when they support live events, programming and campaigns such as this seat naming dedication campaign. Contributions like this will help keep Massey Hall - Canada’s preeminent cultural treasure and designated National Historic Site - thriving for generations to come.
